Shiatsu

Restore balance with traditional Japanese healing

Shiatsu is a traditional Japanese hands-on therapy that has combining elements of acupressure and massage. It is based on the same philosophy as acupuncture that vital energy (Qi) flows throughout the body in a series of channel called meridians.
The aim of Shiatsu is to correct energy imbalances by releasing blocked and stagnant energy and moving it into those areas of the body that are depleted, encouraging smooth flow of Qi. Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing experience and regular treatments help to prevent the build up of physical and emotional stress in our daily lives.

What is a treatment like?
Shiatsu treatments take place at floor level on a futon (padded mat) or on a massage bed with the client wearing light, loose clothing.

Treatment will incorporate a variety of techniques to improve your energy flow. These may include:
• gentle holding, pressing with palms, thumbs, fingers and elbows on the meridians and relevant acupuncture points
• gentle stretching
• mobilization – rotation of the joints

Shiatsu works not only on the physical body, but also on an emotional and mental level. This is generally experienced as a sense of deep relaxation and connectedness during the treatment, which last for several hours or even days afterwards. Generally one feels invigorated yet relaxed.
